First-Class Counties Second Eleven Annual 2020
3 Arundel for the fifth time in seven years, and ending the Trophy season as runners-up for the fourth time. Looking ahead to the summer of 2020, there will be a new competition in the professional game, The Hundred, and there will be big changes to the structure of the season for County Second Elevens: - the Second Eleven Championship will return to being played over four days for the first time since 2003, although there have been occasional four-day matches during the intervening period including the end-of-season finals. Most of the ten Championship games for each county will be played in two blocks, at the start and end of the main season, with fixtures now including cross-overs between the North and South conferences and some combined games also incorporated into the schedule. - the T20 competition will be moved to earlier in the season, mirroring what happens with First Eleven matches, with teams playing a mixture of single- and double-header fixtures. - for the first time since its introduction in 1986, there will not be a formal Second XI Trophy competition. Teams will still have the option of playing 50-over friendlies, especially ahead of the One-Day Trophy for First Elevens. So a quick message to Kent – take good care of the Trophy. - there is also the opportunity for counties to play more combined three- or four-day friendlies while The Hundred is being played. I hope that this publication will continue to meet the needs of all of those involved in, or who support Second Eleven cricket. The statistical sections have been laid out as in previous seasons: - the records sections will refer only to competitive games played in the Championship, Trophy and T20 - any new records set during 2019 will be indicated in bold italic type - player biographies will reflect best batting and bowling performances in multi-day friendlies in addition to the Second Eleven Championship - any players who only appeared in friendly matches between the first-class counties will have an asterisk against their name in the Index Any feedback regarding this publication is welcome – please contact secretary@acscricket.com Paul Parkinson Editor – Second Eleven Annual
