First-Class Counties Second Eleven Annual 2019
6 staged over three and four days, with combined county elevens also taking part. The latter currently occur as friendlies but we should not forget that during the 1960s, a combined Somerset and Gloucestershire Second Eleven participated in the Championship competition. Further changes are set for 2020 and beyond, with the introduction of “The Hundred” franchises seeing the inter-county 50-over tournament metamorphose into a one-day competition involving a mix of First and Second Eleven players from each county, but no overseas players and little coverage on TV. It remains to be seen how this new (or some might say hybrid) format will affect the Second Eleven Championship as it progresses further into its seventh decade.
