First-Class Counties Second Eleven Annual 2012
2 INTRODUCTION Welcome to the First-Class Counties Second Eleven Annual for 2012. In this edition, my second as Editor, I have added a little more information about the Championship and Second Eleven Trophy whilst all details of the new Second Eleven T20 Competition are also included. I have also updated information about a player’s first-class debut. Each entry now gives his team at the time and the date, venue and opponents in the match concerned. As usual, I hope it meets the needs of all Second Eleven Coaches and Scorers and that it provides hours of pleasant browsing for the numerous aficionados and followers of Second Eleven cricket around the country. I also hope that umpires and the very few journalists who cover 2 nd XI Cricket will continue to express interest in its contents. I next repeat a paragraph from last year’s Review of the Season, which will be, I hope, self-explanatory. Since the Counties were now restricted to nine three-day games, many of them arranged three or four-day friendlies. Results of these games are included in the Annual, but all records are for Championship games only. However, player biographies reflect best batting and bowling performances in all three and four-day games. Any player who played only in a friendly game is denoted by an asterisk, in the County Biographies and in the Index of Players. Scotland Lions played one friendly game only. Some players play for as many five Counties in a single season and may only appear in Friendlies for one of those Counties. Such is indicated in the appropriate County Biography pages by an asterisk but, in the Index of Players, no asterisk is added to such players as they may well also have played Championship, Trophy or T20 cricket elsewhere in the course of the season. Some new records were set in 2011 and they are indicated, where necessary, in bold italic type for ease of recognition. Please also be aware that several loan transfers take place each season. I have tried unsuccessfully to compile a list of these events but it may help to explain certain apparent inconsistencies as to which County a player is (or was) actually contracted. Please note that, in the Second Eleven T20 Competition, introduced for 2011 to replace last year’s experiment with a split-innings format, teams played two T20 games on each date so, in the individual County pages and in the player biographies, these two games will be referred to as “Match 1” (pre-lunch) and “Match 2” As usual, I am most grateful to the following for providing so speedily their counties' averages and scorecards - Trevor Cottam (Derbyshire), Brian Hunt (Durham), Paul Parkinson (Essex), Andrew Hignell, Byron Jones and Gareth Watkins (Glamorgan), Keith Gerrish (Gloucestershire), Kevin Baker (Hampshire), Cliff Booth (Kent), Chris Gore, Alan West and Darrin White (Lancashire), David Ayriss and Richard Holdridge (Leicestershire), Andrew Scarlett and Glen Read (MCC Young Cricketers and MCC Universities), Andrew Jones (Middlesex), Mick
