First-Class Counties Second Eleven Annual 2011

INTRODUCTION Welcome to the First-Class Counties Second Eleven Annual for 2011. Its pattern follows almost exactly that of the 2010 edition but I have added all details of the new 40-over Second Eleven Knock-Out Competition. As usual, I hope it meets the needs of all Second Eleven coaches and scorers and that it provides hours of pleasant browsing for the numerous aficionados of Second Eleven cricket around the country. Concerning the statistical information provided for the new Knock-Out Competition, some Counties, by the nature of the competition, played only one game and so no averages are created in such circumstances. However, for these teams, players’ performances are included. Those teams who played at least two games have average details on their pages. I also give a note of explanation concerning the player biographies. Extra information is included this year where a player has played in the Knock-Out Competition and his best batting and best bowling figures from that competition are duly included. I next repeat a paragraph from last year’s Review of the Season, which will be, I hope, self-explanatory. Since the Counties were now restricted to nine three-day games, many of them arranged one-, three- or four-day friendlies. Results of these games are included in the Annual, but all records are for Championship games only. However, player biographies reflect best batting and bowling performances in all one-, three- and four-day games. Any player who played only in a friendly game is denoted by an asterisk, in the county biographies and in the index of players. Scotland Lions played friendly matches only. Some players play for as many four counties in a single season and may only appear in friendlies for one or more of those counties. Such is indicated in the appropriate county biography pages by an asterisk but, in the index of players, no asterisk is added to such players as they may well also have played Championship, Trophy or Knock-Out elsewhere in the course of the season. This year there are a few frustrating gaps in the biographical details, particularly as far as Lancashire CCC is concerned, and I thank those of you who were able to help me out with my requests for extra information just when you thought it was safe to turn to other activities for the winter. I have used CricketArchive and Cricket Scotland websites extensively to obtain some additional information, especially Biographical details. Also, I am very grateful to Peter Griffiths for having the foresight to send me back copies of this Annual. As usual, I am most grateful to the following for providing so speedily their counties’ averages and scorecards - Trevor Cottam (Derbyshire), Brian Hunt (Durham), Paul Parkinson (Essex), Andrew Hignell (Glamorgan), Adrian Bull (Gloucestershire), Kevin Baker (Hampshire), Cliff Booth (Kent), Ken Grime (Lancashire), David Ayriss and Richard Holdridge (Leicestershire), Andrew Scarlett and Glen Read (MCC Young Cricketers and MCC Universities), Andrew 2
