This was the first meeting between these countries. Afghanistan set new national partnership records of 53 and 54 for the 1st and 8th wickets respectively, and equalled the national record of 37 for the 5th. This was a new Test ground, the third in Lucknow (putting it alongside Johannesburg and Mumbai; Colombo has four). Hamza Hotak, on Test debut above, has been referred to by that name in this Annual ever since his first-class debut in 2011, but note he sometimes appears in other sources as Amir Hamza Hotak or Amir Hamza.
