Toss: West Indies Close of Play: 1st day: West Indies (1) 264-8 (Hetmyer 56, 89.2 overs); 2nd day: West Indies (2) 127-6 (Dowrich 27, Holder 7, 36 overs); 3rd day: England (2) 56-0 (Burns 39, Jennings 11, 20 overs). Man of the Match: J.O.Holder. S.O.Dowrich passed 4,000 runs in first-class matches when he reached 60 in the second innings. B.A.Stokes passed 3,000 runs in Test matches when he reached 34 in the second innings. J.O.Holder’s 202* was only the third Test double hundred at no. 8, after Imtiaz Ahmed 209 and WasimAkram 257*. His stand of 295* with S.O.Dowrich was the third highest in Tests (and second highest by West Indies) for the 7th wicket; it was also West Indies’best for that wicket v England (previously 204 by M.N.Samuels and D.J.G.Sammy at Trent Bridge in 2012). R.L.Chase’s 8-60 was the second best innings return for West Indies v England. On Day 3, no wicket fell in a full day’s play, the 23rd such instance in Tests. S.D.Hope kept wicket for West Indies throughout Day 4 after Dowrich had injured his back, and made 1 catch and 1 stumping in that role.
