Third umpire: Ahmed Shah Pakteen. Referee: J.Srinath. Toss: Ireland Close of Play: 1st day: Afghanistan (1) 90-2 (Rahmat Shah 22, Hashmatullah Shahidi 13, 31 overs); 2nd day: Ireland (2) 22-1 (Stirling 8, Balbirnie 14, 12 overs); 3rd day: Afghanistan (2) 29-1 (Ihsanullah Janat 16, Rahmat Shah 11, 16 overs). Man of the Match: Rahmat Shah. K.J.O’Brien passed 2,000 runs in first-class matches when he reached 49 in the second innings. T.J.Murtagh passed 4,000 runs in first-class matches when he reached 23 in the second innings. Each team was playing its second-ever Test; it was Afghanistan’s first ‘home’Test (actually in Uttarakhand in India), and first win; and Ireland’s first away Test. Afghanistan’s total of 314 was their highest in Tests. Rahmat Shah’s 98 was their highest individual score, and Rashid Khan’s 5-82 and 7-102 their best innings and match bowling. Afghanistan set new partnership records of 27, 139, 130, 28, 28 and 31 for their 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th and 9th wickets respectively; Ireland 33, 104, 14 and 87 for their 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 10th. Ireland became only the fourth side to add 50 or more for the last wicket in both innings of a Test (after three instances by Australia v England: Adelaide 1894/95, Sydney 1924/25, and Nottingham 2013). This was a new Test ground: the 28th in India and the 119th in all.
