Toss: Bangladesh Close of Play: 1st day: Bangladesh (1) 303-5 (Mushfiqur Rahim 111, Mahmudullah 0, 90 overs); 2nd day: Zimbabwe (1) 25-1 (Chari 10, Tiripano 0, 18 overs); 3rd day: Zimbabwe (1) 304 all out; 4th day: Zimbabwe (2) 76-2 (Taylor 4, Williams 2, 30 overs). Man of the Match: Mushfiqur Rahim. Mehedi Hasan passed 1,000 runs in first-class matches when he reached 3 in the second innings. K.M.Jarvis reached 300 wickets in first-class matches when taking his 3rd wicket in the Bangladesh first innings. Mushfiqur Rahim’s 219* was the highest score in Tests for Bangladesh, beating Shakib Al Hasan’s 217 v New Zealand at Wellington in 2016/17. The previous record against Zimbabwe, Shakib Al Hasan’s 137 at Khulna in 2014/15, was beaten twice in the Bangladesh first innings: by Mominul Haque’s 161, itself then surpassed by Rahim’s 219*. Bangladesh’s total of 522-7d was their best against Zimbabwe (previously 503 at Chittagong in 2014/15). It included 266 added by Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim, and 144* added by Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehedi Hasan. These partnerships set new records for the 4th and 8th Bangladesh wickets not only against Zimbabwe (previously 132 by Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan at Khulna in 2014/15 and 62 by Mohammad Rafique and Mashrafa bin Mortaza at Chittagong in 2004/05) but against all comers (previously 180 by Mominul Haque and Liton Das v Sri Lanka at Chitttagong in 2017/18 and 113 by Mushfiqur Rahim and Naeem Islam v England at Chittagong in 2009/10). In the second innings the 73* added by Mahmudullah and Mehedi Hasan was a new record for the 7th Bangladesh wicket against Zimbabwe (previously 69 by Khaled Mashud and Mohammad Rafique at Chittagong in 2004/05). B.R.M.Taylor became the first Zimbabwe player to score two centuries in a Test on two separate occasions (he also did it v Bangladesh at Harare in 2013).
