ACS Overseas First-Class Annual 2018
Acknowledgments It is one of the pleasures of my role as compiler to thank everyone that has contributed to the preparation of the Annual (although subject to the usual rider that responsibility for any errors or oversights must always rest with me). First of all I must record my thanks to Philip Bailey and all at Cricket Archive (cricketarchive.com ) for permission to extract scorecard data from their unmatched database now comprising some 700,000 scorecards covering every level of the game in all parts of the world, and extending from the eighteenth century right up to the present day. Cricket Archive’s support went well beyond the simple provision of data; Philip also responded speedily and efficiently to the countless queries thrown up during the preparation of the Annual . Pete Griffiths on behalf of Limlow Books undertook the task of typesetting the entire Annual , including over 600 match scorecards, and tirelessly chasing down the bugs and glitches that are inevitable in a production of this kind. Special thanks also go to Keith Walmsley, Ric Finlay and John Ward, who shared with me the onerous task of checking hundreds of scorecards not only to identify any errors or omissions but also to point out notable occurrences and achievements. Keith, Ric and John were a reliable source of vital information, valuable suggestions and helpful advice throughout the process, and in addition Keith contributed the narrative introductions to several sections of the book. Many others throughout the world also gave of their time to supply or verify source material and point out errors or oversights: Robin Abrahams, Dinar Gupte, David Kendix, Harriet Monkhouse, Francis Payne, Andrew Samson and Sudhir Vaidya. I also acknowledge the use I have made of published on-line sources including ESPNcricinfo and the tweets and blogs of Andrew Samson, Aslam Siddiqui and Andy Zaltzman. My thanks go too to the ACS Committee for its confidence and support; to Gary Ingram at brand-ing.co.uk for the ‘bowler’ image on the cover and to Zahra Ridge for other elements of the cover design; and to John Anderson and his colleagues at City Press Leeds. And last but very definitely not least, let me acknowledge with gratitude the patience and forbearance of my wife Deborah in the face of the time I expend on preparing this book. John Bryant Editor 6
