Babar Azam passed 2,000 runs in first-class matches when he reached 4 in the first innings. J.K.Silva passed 2,000 runs in Test matches when he reached 9 in the first innings. Yasir Shah reached 150 wickets in Test matches when taking his 1st wicket in the first innings. H.M.R.K.B.Herath reached 400 wickets in Test matches when taking his 6th wicket in the second innings. This was the first Test (and first first-class match) to use the 2017 laws. This was specifically sanctioned by ICC because the official commencement date for the new laws, 1 October 2017, fell during the match. I.J.Gould was originally appointed as umpire but he fell ill before the start and R.A.Kettleborough, originally chosen as third umpire, stood throughout. Ahsan Raza replaced him as third umpire.
