The Quaid-e-Azam tournament was won for the third time in the last four seasons by Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd. They owed their success in the final against WAPDA above all to batsmen Iftikhar Ahmed and Mohammad Rizwan, who between them scored almost two-thirds of the side’s runs off the bat in the match; and to left-arm medium-pacer Samiullah Khan, who took 11 wickets, including a return of 8-62 in WAPDA’s second innings as they sought 257 for victory and fell 103 runs short. As usual, the tournament was dominated by departmental sides, despite the efforts of the PCB to make it more competitive by introducing a draft system for players in the regional teams.
