Man of the Match: T.W.M.Latham. Shakib Al Hasan passed 3,000 runs in Test matches when he reached 71 in the first innings. Shakib Al Hasan passed 5,000 runs in first-class matches when he reached 156 in the first innings. T.W.M.Latham passed 2,000 runs in Test matches when he reached 162 in the first innings. Sabbir Rahman passed 2,000 runs in first-class matches when he reached 8 in the second innings. Imrul Kayes retired hurt in the Bangladesh second innings having scored 24 (team score 46-0, 12.5 overs) - he returned when the score was 148-7. Mushfiqur Rahim retired hurt in the Bangladesh second innings having scored 13 (team score 114-5, 42.5 overs). Shakib Al Hasan's 217 was the highest individual innings for Bangladesh (previously 206 by Tamim Iqbal against Pakistan at Khulna in 2015; previous highest against New Zealand was 181 by Mominul Haque at Chittagong in 2013/14). 595-8d was Bangladesh's second highest Test total, and that country's best against New Zealand (previously 501 at Chittagong in 2013/14); it was also the highest total in Tests by a losing side (previously 586 by Australia against England at Sydney in 1894/95). The 359 added by Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim was the fourth best for the 5th wicket in all Test cricket, and the best for Bangladesh for any wicket (previously 312 for the 1st wicket by Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes against Pakistan at Khulna in 2015). Bangladesh's previous best for the 5th wicket was 267 by Mohammad Ashraful and Mushfiqur Rahim against Sri Lanka at Galle in 2012/13 and the previous best against New Zealand was 144 by Mehrab Hossain jnr and Mushfiqur Rahim at Chittagong in 2008/09. The 142 added by T.W.M.Latham and H.M.Nicholls was the best for the 4th wicket for New Zealand against Bangladesh (previously 137 by J.D.Ryder and B.B.McCullum at Mirpur in 2008/09). Mushfiqur Rahim is shown above as wicketkeeper because he was selected as such but he was injured while batting so Imrul Kayes kept during New Zealand's first innings, only to be injured himself while batting in the second innings so that Sabbir Rahman kept in New Zealand's second innings. Imrul Kayes's 5 catches are a Test record for a stand-in wicketkeeper. 256 New Zealand in 2016/17
