ACS Oveseas First-Class Annual 2013
N.O.Miller (Jamaica) and off-spinner S.Shillingford (Windwards) each took 52 wickets – Miller at the remarkable average of only 8.05 – while the new off-spinner A.R.Nurse (Barbados) was third with 45, including 14 wickets in the semi-final against the Windwards. Bowler of the home season was undoubtedly Shillingford, whose 19 wickets in the Tests against Zimbabwe took him to a total of 71 wickets for the season as a whole (average 11.81), recorded in only eight matches. He claimed ten or more wickets in a match four times (including three matches in succession), and took at least a share of the ‘Man of the Match’ award in five of his eight games. His tally of 71 wickets equals the most ever in a West Indian season by a home bowler, is the most ever by a home spinner, and equals the third-highest total by any bowler – though all the other bowlers concerned played at least ten matches. Shillingford’s home form in 2012/13 was no flash in the pan: since the start of the home 2011/12 season he has taken 128 wickets in his 16 first-class matches in the West Indies, averaging a remarkable eight wickets per match.
