ACS Overseas First-Class Annual 2011
recovery by UAE. Winning the junior competition was some consolation to Namibia for being harshly excluded from the 2009-10 Cup despite finishing as runner-up in the 2007-08 competition. Namibia’s reign as Shield champions may be a long one: the ICC has decided to retire this competition. Instead, the next edition of the Intercontinental Cup will extend over the years 2011 to 2013 and will involve eight teams: Afghanistan, Canada, Ireland, Kenya, Namibia, Netherlands, Scotland and United Arab Emirates. Of the other sides involved in the Cup and Shield 2009-10, Uganda and Bermuda will drop out of first-class cricket altogether, at least for the time being; while Zimbabwe will resume playing Test matches in August 2011. Matches in the Intercontinental Cup and Shield in the 2010 season are found in the ‘Matches in 2010’ section commencing on page 11. Matches in 2009 and 2009/10 are found in the relevant sections of the 2010 annual. The ICC Intercontinental competitions as a whole, from the first edition of the Cup in 2004 through to the Cup and Shield of 2009-10, are the subject of a special ACS publication including full scores and extended match reports.
