Rest of the World in 2009/10 This section includes the 12 first-class matches played in the 2009/10 season outside the ICC full member countries. Namibia, although recognised as a separate cricketing entity by ICC, took part in the South African Provincial Competition (for more details and a final table, see the South Africa section). Namibia’s six home matches in the Competition are included in this section. All the other matches were in the ICC Inter-Continental tournaments, which provide competitive first-class cricket for non-Test nations. The ICC Inter-Continental Cup has been played since 2004 with a number of changes of format. The previous competition covered the calendar years 2007 and 2008 and was won by Ireland. In 2009 a new Inter-Continental Cup began, involving seven teams: Afghanistan, Canada, Ireland, Kenya, Netherlands, Scotland and a Zimbabwe XI. The participation of a full member of ICC is something of a departure: it is part of ICC’s efforts to raise the standard of play so that Zimbabwe can resume participation in Test cricket. The teams will play a round-robin league during the calendar years 2009 and 2010, culminating in a final between the top two in Dubai in November 2010. In addition to the Inter-Continental Cup, a new competition, the ICC Inter-Continental Shield, was inaugurated in 2009. The Shield will also be played over the calendar years 2009 and 2010 and involves four teams: Bermuda, Namibia, Uganda and United Arab Emirates. The format is similar to the Cup: the top two teams in a round-robin league will contest a final in November 2010. Matches in the Inter-Continental Cup and Shield in 2009 and 2009/10 are found in the relevant sections of this Annual. The tables as at the end of the 2009/10 season are given below. The remaining matches, and final tables, will appear in the 2011 edition of the Annual.
