Kent’s declaration set Essex 251 to win but the Essex ninth wicket fell at 6.10 pm with the score on 150; however Thompson and Strutton played out time. For Kent there were 8 fours in Douglas’s 78 and 5 fours in Weigall’s 65; they added 137 for the Kent fifth wicket. Freeman took 6 wickets for 53 runs in the Essex first innings. Povey took 1 catch and 3 stumpings in the match. For Essex Richardson top-scored with 48 whilst Hills took 5 wickets in the match. Coleman took 3 catches in the match.
