For the winners there were 2 sixes and 8 fours in Wyatt’s 69, which was scored out of 77 for the first wicket and took just 40 minutes. In the Cheshire second innings Wild and Wyatt added 51 in 40 minutes for the first wicket before the close of play. In both innings Wyatt hit 2 sixes off the bowling of Hickton. A Williams took 5 wickets for 61 runs in the Northumberland first innings and Hope took 6 wickets for 33 runs in the second, during which he and Smoker, who took 8 wickets in the match, bowled unchanged; the innings lasted for just 25 overs. For Northumberland there were 2 sixes and 5 fours in R G Morrison’s 53, whilst Hunting hit 3 sixes in his 22. Skinner took 9 wickets for 62 runs in the match, including 6 for 30 in the Cheshire first innings, taking 3 wickets in his ninth over. On the second day Craig was hit over the right eye by a ball from Skinner and J S F Morrison took over as wicket-keeper, Clifton fielding as substitute.
