For the winners there were 4 sixes and 29 fours in Carroll’s 197, his score moved from an overnight 62 to 197 in only 1 hour and 50 minutes. Fulcher scored 51 with 5 fours, Reed 97 with 12 fours, and Light made 66 with 4 sixes and 8 fours, which was scored in just over 40 minutes. Fulcher and Reed put on 107 runs for the first wicket, 130 runs were added for the second wicket and 129 for the fourth wicket. Light took 5 wickets for 11 runs in the Monmouthshire second innings and also took 3 catches in the match. For Monmouthshire there were 7 fours in E S Phillips’s 78 and 10 fours in E T James’s 64. This was the first time that a Championship match had been played at this ground.
