Minor Counties Championship 1914

THE MINOR COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIP 1914 INTRODUCTION This book contains the match scores, a statistical survey and the full averages, both by county and by player in alphabetical order, for 1914, which was the twentieth season of the Minor Counties Championship. It follows the same format as the previous ACS publications which covered the first nineteen seasons of the competition. However a major addition in this volume is a list of all those Minor County cricketers from the period 1895-1914 who lost their lives at war, with their biographical information. To provide this required a significant undertaking by Kevin Clement whose meticulous and detailed research is published here. In many cases he has identified more accurate places of death than other sources, which often show the place of burial. For 40 to 50% of the players Kevin has also recorded a civilian occupation, in some cases more than one. Many thanks are due to him for this valuable addition to this publication. THE ANNUAL MEETING The Annual Meeting of the Minor Counties’ Cricket Association was held in the pavilion at Lord's on the morning of Tuesday 9 December, 1913. Mr R H Mallett (Durham) presided over what was a short meeting, there being little business of a contentiousness nature to discuss.
