They had also won the encounter between the two sides at Jesmond the previous week. In the Staffordshire first innings Meakin scored 70 in 110 minutes with 4 fours and 9 threes and opener Awty made 58 with 8 fours. Wilson, who bowled unchanged, took 6 wickets for 23 runs, at one period dismissing three batsmen in four deliveries, thus just missing out on a hat-trick for a Staffordshire bowler for the third consecutive match. He followed up in the second innings with 4 for 17 to finish with match figures of 10 for 40. For Northumberland Skinner took 4 for 85 in the Staffordshire innings. Milne top-scored with 32 in the Northumberland second innings while their captain Skinner was dismissed for a ‘King’ pair.
