were obtained by Barnes , who averaged 28.75 with the bat and 6.18 with the ball, and Falcon , who averaged 37.87 with the bat and 13.54 with the ball. The ‘match double’ of scoring 100 runs and taking ten wickets in the same match was only achieved by one player in 1914. Allan Gorringe , playing for Cambridgeshire in what was his only Championship match, accomplished this feat against Norfolk. He scored 57 and 55 and had figures of 5-70 and 5-109. Of the wicket-keepers, Frank Vibart of Cornwall was most successful with 15 victims (catching 11 – the most in the season – and stumping 4). Arthur Povey of Kent 2nd XI finished second with 14 dismissals (catching 5 and making 9 stumpings – the most of the season). Other successful keepers were: Charles Titchmarsh of Hertfordshire with 13 victims (9 catches and 4 stumpings), ‘Jack’ Craig of Northumberland with 11 dismissals (7 catches and 4 stumpings), and Thomas Davies of Devon, also with 11 (5 catches and 6 stumpings). In terms of catches held, six fielders had ten or more. John Heath of Staffordshire took the most, finishing with 14. Denis Hendren of Durham held 11, whilst the following all made ten: Joseph Awty of Staffordshire, Sydney Etheridge of Hertfordshire, William Hickmott of Kent 2nd XI and Henry Shoosmith of Berkshire.
