Norfolk had won the match between the two sides at Bedford in July. Bedfordshire were asked to follow on but rain delayed the start of play until 12.15 pm on the second day and returned later so that only 24 overs could be bowled in all. For Norfolk Thurgar’s 59 contained 8 fours and Popham’s 117, an innings of 2 hours 58 minutes, included 9 fours, 6 threes, and 16 twos; together they added 117 for the Norfolk first wicket. For Bedfordshire Newman had the best bowling figures and scored the most runs.
