They were set 325 to win in 3½ hours and had looked to be struggling when their sixth wicket fell with the score at just 176 but the captain, Goodden, and the tail saw them to victory. For the winners Sewell scored 68, Webb 83, and there were 1 six and 12 fours in Goodden’s 76. Hope took 9 wickets for 144 runs in the match, including figures of 5 for 76 in Berkshire’s first innings. Farrer took 2 catches in each innings and Busk took 3 catches in Berkshire’s first innings.
