Rain delayed the start of play on the second day until 12.45 pm. For the winners there was 1 six in R W Awdry’s 52, which was the only innings above 30 in the match. Mitchell took 7 wickets for 49 runs in Buckinghamshire’s first innings and 7 for 53 in their second, giving him match figures of 14 for 102; he bowled unchanged throughout the match. R W Awdry took 3 catches in Buckinghamshire’s first innings and 5 in the match. Overton took 3 catches in Buckinghamshire’s second innings. For the losers Sewell top-scored with 26; he also took 5 wickets for 22 runs in Wiltshire’s first innings, finishing with match figures of 9 for 109. Franklin took 3 catches and made 2 stumpings in the match. The identity of Wiltshire’s eleventh man has been given various alternatives with B Stevens and E J Watts listed in some newspapers while Wisden has D J Watts. However the decision is to accept that in the Wiltshire News which states that “J D H Watts - a London Wiltshireman - filled the last place, which no resident could be persuaded to take.” [Missing: Umpires; breakdown of extras; part fall of wickets; fours in R W Awdry’s 52; precise time completed.] Sources: Bucks Advertiser 26 July; Bucks Herald 26 July; South Bucks Free Press 25 July; North Bucks Times 28 July; Devizes and Wiltshire Gazette 24 July; North Wilts Herald 25 July; Wiltshire News 25 July; Cricket 26 July, p 442. 61
