The match between the two teams at The Oval in June had been drawn with Surrey winning on first innings. For the winners Preston took 9 wickets for 15 runs in Surrey’s first innings, bowling unchanged. In Surrey’s second innings he took 4 for 43, giving him match figures of 13-58 (9 of his victims were bowled), whilst A P Freeman took 5 wickets for 36 runs in Surrey’s second innings. Jennings was Kent’s top-scorer with 33. For the losers Myers made their highest score with 39 runs in their second innings whilst A J Freeman took 5 wickets for 43 runs in Kent’s innings.
