It was reported that a great deal of rain had fallen during the previous 24 hours and the wicket was soft and easy. For the winners there was 1 six and 20 fours in Hendren’s innings of 139, scored in two hours, while Dales’s 118 was scored in an hour and 50 minutes and included 2 sixes, 1 five and 17 fours. Kinch scored 53. In the Durham innings Hendren and Kinch put on 168 runs for the third wicket, and Dales and Smith 75 for the last wicket. In the home team’s first innings Harry took seven wickets for 47 runs. Morris took ten wickets in the match for 108 runs with 3 for 37 in the first innings and 7 for 71 in the second. For the losers Carpenter scored 50 in the second Cambridgeshire innings which contained 1 six and 5 fours and lasted one hour and 40 minutes. [There are for the Cambridgeshire bowling a number of balancing differences for runs conceded between the Durham Scorebook and those recorded in the Newcastle Daily Journal and Cricket. These include Coulson 130 not 135, Wilson 82 not 79 and Keenlyside 36 not 34.
