They had declared their first innings at 4.30 pm on the first day after batting for 4¼ hours. Driving powerfully and hitting well on the leg side, Hunting scored 122 with 4 sixes and 15 fours, an innings of 110 minutes. He added 122 in 70 minutes for the fourth wicket with Nesbit. Earlier Norbury had scored 65 and he followed this up by taking 5 for 35 in the Cheshire first innings. The visitors were asked to follow on and in their second innings Holland scored 64 in 50 minutes with 4 sixes and 5 fours.
