For the winners there were 10 fours in Reed’s 121 in an innings lasting 3½ hours and 6 fours in Carroll’s 87. Together they put on 171 for Devon’s second wicket. Tate took 6 wickets for 33 runs in Dorset’s first innings and Wreford took 5 wickets for 67 in their second innings including a ‘hat trick’, dismissing Freeman, Walby and Goodden. For the losers there were 3 sixes and 6 fours in Gordon’s 90 and he added 112 for the first wicket with Webb. In Dorset’s second innings Cummins and Manger added 61 for the ninth wicket after the earlier batting had collapsed. Cummins took 5 wickets for 47 runs in Devon’s second innings, bowling unchanged. Farrer made 3 dismissals in the match. Nine batsmen were bowled out in Dorset’s second innings.
