Minor Counties Championship 1913
The ‘match double’ of scoring 100 runs and taking ten wickets in the same match was achieved by two players in 1913. Sydney Barnes accomplished this feat against Durham whilst Jimmy Maxwell of Glamorgan achieved it against Kent 2nd XI. Of the wicket-keepers, Thomas Davies of Devon was most successful with 23 victims (17 caught and 6 stumped). Johnny Common of Durham finished second with 20 victims (taking 19 catches – the most in the season – and making 1 stumping). Other successful keepers were Harry Farrer of Dorset with 19 victims (18 catches and 1 stumping), Alexander Todd of Berkshire with 17 victims (10 catches and 7 stumpings), John Tipping of Cheshire with 16 victims (14 catches and 2 stumpings) and William Rose of Lincolnshire, also with 16 (13 catches and three stumpings). Edwin Diver of Monmouthshire took the most stumpings in the season with eight victims. In terms of catches held, four fielders had 13 or more. Henry Shoosmith of Berkshire took the most, finishing with 20. Robert Awdry of Wiltshire and Bert Holdstock of Berkshire both took 15, whilst Jack Nichols of Staffordshire held 13.
