The match between the two teams at Broxbourne in July had been won by Hertfordshire by 3 wickets. Hertfordshire’s innings lasted for just 4 hours 26 minutes. There were 20 fours and 6 threes in Titchmarsh’s 137 and 24 fours and 6 threes in Household’s 153. Together they added 151 runs for Hertfordshire’s third wicket. There were 11 fours in Ward’s 78 and he added 146 runs with Household for Hertfordshire’s fourth wicket. Burton took 6 wickets for 91 runs in Buckinghamshire’s first innings and no other bowler took more than 3 wickets in the match. For the losers there were 17 fours in Franklin’s unbeaten 119. He made 160 in the match without being dismissed and added 141 runs with Wright for Buckinghamshire’s ninth wicket in their first innings – this was a new county record. There were 17 fours in Sewell’s 106 and 17 fours and 5 threes in Kent’s 123 and together they added 217 for Buckinghamshire’s first wicket in their second innings which was also a new county record. The Hertfordshire total of 505 is the highest ever conceded by Buckinghamshire.
