The match between the two teams at Exeter in July had been won by Monmouthshire by 4 wickets. The match was significantly disrupted by rain as there was no play after 4.30 pm on the first day and no play until 3.20 pm on the second afternoon. For the visitors there were 6 fours in Reed’s 57 and his 50 came in 65 minutes. Light took 6 wickets for 49 runs. For the home side Silverlock top-scored with 42 and put on 54 for the eighth wicket with Raikes. F G Phillips took 5 wickets for 85 runs. Wilcox made his debut as wicket-keeper because Diver was lame.
