The match between the two teams at Chester in July had been won by Cheshire by 10 wickets. Rain prevented any play before 2.00 pm on the first day. For the winners there were 6 fours in Fallows’ 60. Smoker took 13 wickets for 38 runs in the match, including figures of 8 for 18 in Monmouthshire’s first innings and 5 for 20 in their second. This was despite being injured early in Monmouthshire’s second innings and having to leave the field. Edwards came on as a substitute. Tipping took 4 catches in the match. For the losers Diver top-scored with 25 in their second innings. F G Phillips took 5 wickets for 64 runs. Diver caught 3 Cheshire batsmen and stumped another.
