Play did not start until 11.50 am on the second day due to rain when, with the agreement of both captains, a new pitch was cut. For the winners, Light scored 52 not out. Fishwick took 7 wickets for 23 runs in Dorset’s second innings and Light took 5 wickets for 17 runs in their first. The Devon wicket-keeper Davies was struck a severe blow on the jaw by Sewell’s bat when the batsman missed a pull shot towards the end of the first day and Carroll took his place behind the stumps. Dorset’s Bolton fielded as a substitute. For Dorset Harrison top-scored with 55 and Webb took 7 wickets for 43 runs in the Devon first innings.
