Overnight rain meant that play did not start until 2.15 pm on the second day. The match between the two sides at Cardiff in July had been won by Glamorgan. Monmouthshire were set a target of 172 runs to win but were only able to reach 73 without loss before the match ended. For the visitors Riches made the only two half-centuries in the match; 73 with 7 fours in the first innings and an unbeaten 69 in the second. Creber took 5 wickets for 51 runs in Monmouthshire’s first innings. Whittington was unable to bat in the second innings or field in Monmouthshire’s second innings due to an eye inflammation. [Missing: Umpires; part fall of wickets; extras breakdown; in Glamorgan second innings boundaries in Riches’s 69 not out; the bowling analysis has been calculated from end of season averages; in Monmouthshire second innings bowling analysis.] Sources: Free Press of Monmouthshire 16 August; Monmouthshire Evening Post 9,10 August; South Wales Argus 9,10 August; South Wales Daily News 10,12 August; Western Mail 10,12 August; Cricket 24 August, p 451. 91
