It was their first win in Durham since 1891. The match between the two sides at Jesmond in May had been drawn. Rain prevented play on the first day until 5.20 pm. On the second day Durham were bowled out twice in less than three hours on a pitch that “afforded the bowlers substantial assistance”. For the winners, Milne took 12 wickets in the match for 59 runs, his best figures for the county over his long career (1901-25), including 6 for 33 in Durham’s first innings and 6 for 26 in their second. Wingham took the remaining 8 wickets for 57. Wingham scored 56 including 1 six and 4 fours, Stanger-Leathes 52 containing 2 sixes and 4 fours, and Hunting 52 with 8 fours. In the Northumberland innings, Hunting and Wingham put on 88 runs for the seventh wicket. For Durham, H Brooks made the highest score with 22.
