The visitors had required 212 runs in 2½ hours to gain first innings points. Rain fell 5 minutes after the Cambridgeshire innings was completed. Cricket was rained off on the first day at 3.30 pm and a start was not made on the second day until 1.15 pm. A fresh pitch was prepared. The ground remained soft and wet on the second day making conditions for the bowlers and fielders difficult. Match reports refer to large pools of water being on the outfield. “Some amusement was caused owing to the fielders having repeatedly to leap pools of water to secure the ball, a sight never previously witnessed on the ground.” For the home side, Day scored 85 which included 4 sixes and 5 fours and B P Nevile 72. Riley, coming on as third change took 5 wickets for 26 runs. For Cambridgeshire Watts made the highest score with 39. W E Thompson, the Lincolnshire captain, was unfit to play as he had injured his right thumb. This was the first time the ground had been used for a Championship match.
