MInor Counties Championship 1912

As in previous years, newspapers remain the main source of information, with over eighty being consulted in researching the scores. Missing Details There were four matches where bowling analyses were incomplete. The matches concerned were:- Match 34 – Cornwall v Berkshire at Camborne: the bowler who delivered the only ball in Cornwall’s second innings is unknown Match 44 – Dorset v Berkshire at Dorchester: the bowling analyses are completely missing for both innings of Berkshire, and partly missing for Dorset’s only innings Match 60 – Monmouthshire v Glamorgan at Newport: the bowling analyses for Monmouthshire’s second innings are completely missing Match 82 – Wiltshire v Buckinghamshire at Melksham: the bowling analyses for all four innings are partly missing Unfortunately, it is not possible to calculate the missing analyses from the end of season averages. There are also three instances where bowling analyses did not add correctly. The matches concerned were:- Match 24 – Cornwall v Monmouthshire at Penzance: Monmouthshire first innings – Cornwall runs conceded 1 run short Match 34 – Cornwall v Berkshire at Camborne: Berkshire second innings – Cornwall runs conceded 1 run too many Match 62 – Monmouthshire v Cornwall at Abergavenny: Monmouthshire’s second innings – Cornwall runs conceded 2 runs short. In Match 59 – Kent 2 nd XI v Cornwall, there is clearly an error in the number of overs delivered by the various Cornwall bowlers in Kent 2 nd XI’s first innings: Whiting, F J is shown as bowling 32.5 overs but the other three bowlers are given as bowling only 30 overs between them. The Averages As in previous years the averages are provided in two forms – by county and by player. In both cases they are listed in alphabetical order. 454 players took part in the season, compared with 522 in 1911 and 547 in 1910. In the averages the symbol * indicates a not out innings, + denotes a player making his debut for his team in 1912, of which there were 116, and a name in bold denotes a player making his final appearance for his team in 1912, of which there were 139. An addendum and corrigendum for previous seasons, which gives details found since the previous issue, is included after the statistical survey of the season. Minor Counties Representative Match During 1912 the Minor Counties played their seventh representative match, their opponents being the touring South African side. The tourists were of Test status and the three-day match played at Stoke-on-Trent in July was classified as first-class. The full score can be found at the end of the book. 14
