The match between the two sides at Stoke-on-Trent earlier in the month had been drawn. The weather was atrocious with the rainfall naturally making the ground very soft. Play began 10 minutes after the advertised time, and with one cessation of ten minutes before lunch, play continued up to the interval. However ten minutes after the resumption a drenching storm came on, and the pitch was so saturated that further play was out of the question. On the second day more torrential rain caused the abandonment of the match shortly after 12 noon. For Staffordshire there were 2 sixes and 7 fours in Taylor’s 80 and 1 six and 5 fours in Nichols’s 52. These two had an opening partnership of 115 runs. For J H Ellerton this was his only Minor County Championship appearance for Cheshire and he did not bat or bowl.
