Recent rain had rendered the turf very soft and Barnes was virtually unplayable, taking 14 wickets in the match for 13 runs, including 8 for 6 in the Cheshire first innings. It was the only instance of a bowler taking ten or more wickets in a match to date conceding fewer runs than wickets taken, and was statistically the third best match bowling performance of the season. Briggs was the only batsman to reach fifty, his 54 taking 2 hours and containing just 1 four. For Cheshire, Comberbach with 14 was the only batsman to reach double figures. The match aggregate of 194 runs for a completed match was the lowest of the season. The Cheshire second innings total of 14 was the lowest of the season and a new record for the competition.
