Nottinghamshire required 260 runs to win in 2½ hours when they began their second innings, but heavy rain caused the match to be abandoned at around 5.00 pm. On the first day rain had delayed a restart to play after lunch for an hour and 20 minutes until 3.30 pm. For Durham, there were 13 fours in Turnbull’s 71 and 8 fours in Bradford’s 58. In the Durham first innings, Walker and Turnbull put on 101 runs for the first wicket. For the visitors, Iremonger took 11 wickets in the match for 134 runs. Morris’s 51 contained 7 fours. In the Durham first innings when the score had reached 50, the Nottinghamshire wicket-keeper Stapleton was hit by a ball from Iremonger and temporarily retired. Whysall took over the gloves and Thackeray fielded as the substitute. Stapleton resumed his duties after lunch.
