Lincolnshire started their second innings after lunch on the second day and fell 7 runs short of making the visitors bat again. When the two teams met at Hitchin in July Lincolnshire had been the winners. The match was due to be played at the Peoples Park but as the pitch was water-logged it was agreed to transfer the match to the Grimsby Town ground where it was possible to start play at 3.30 pm on the first day. For the winners, Shelford took 10 wickets in the match for 65 runs. For the losers, Thompson carried his bat through the Lincolnshire second innings scoring 29 not out. This was the first use of this ground for a Championship match.
