However, the Yorkshire batting was described in press reports as being ‘slow and tedious’ and they had insufficient time - 170 minutes - to bowl Staffordshire out in their second innings. For Yorkshire 2 nd XI Brown took 10 wickets in the match for 92 runs, including 7 for 67 in the Staffordshire first innings. Grimshaw took 4 hours and 40 minutes in scoring his 89, an innings that contained 8 fours. In the Yorkshire innings Grimshaw and Turner added 116 runs for the second wicket For the home side, Briggs’s 65 included 4 fours and Bourne a match-saving 40, an innings of 2 hours and 10 minutes. The 45.4 overs bowled by Barnes in the Yorkshire innings was the second highest number for the season, while the 20 maidens were the most in an innings during the season. The match between the two sides at Wakefield in July had been won by Yorkshire 2 nd XI.
