This compares with their performance in 1905 when, with 5 wins, they finished second overall in the Championship Table. When the match against Glamorgan to decide who should play in the play offs was ruined by rain with no decision on first innings and Glamorgan went forward this “caused some criticism”. Dorset were replaced in the fixture list by Carmarthenshire. Arthur Silverlock gave a good all round performance scoring 722 runs at 65.63 and taking 24 wickets at 18.33. Monmouthshire were well served by their bowlers – Richard Steeples with 59 wickets at 12.83, Gordon Phillips with 43 at 17.23 and W A Williams with 32 at 12.90. Career milestones reached during the season were two thousand runs by Edward Phillips, four hundred wickets by Richard Steeples and one hundred wickets by W A Williams.
