His main support came from Richard Swann-Mason with 307 runs at 34.11 and George Watts, the wicket-keeper, with 297 at 22.84. The bowling was relatively weak and relied heavily on Harry Coulson who took 36 wickets at 25.72. Only Hebert Tebbutt gave Coulson support with 15 wickets at 26.33. The season saw the first use of the Cricket Field Road Ground, Newmarket as a venue for a championship match. The career milestone of one hundred wickets was passed by Harry Coulson during the season.
