For the winners, Rushby took 13 wickets in the match for 104 runs, including for 7 for 32 in the Dorset first innings. There were 2 sixes and 5 fours in Vigar’s 95 and 6 fours in Rutty’s 63. These two batsmen put on 157 runs for the eighth wicket in the Surrey innings which was a new championship record for this wicket beating the 152 added by A K Watson and R G Pilch for Norfolk against Cambridgeshire at Norwich in 1905. For the losers, Williams scored 54. This was the first championship match to be played at this ground.
