When the sides met at Watford in July, Hertfordshire had won. For the winners, Smith took 15 wickets in the match for 92 runs, with 7 for 44 in the first innings and8 for 48 in the second. It was stat istically, the best match bowling performance of the season. Barratt’s 115 contained 15 fours, 7 threes and 8 twos, an innings of 160 minutes, and Watson’s 105 12 fours, 7 threes, and 7 twos, scored in 2 hours. These two added 189 for the sixth wicket. For Hertfordshire in the first ininngs Rudd and Coleman added 55 for the seventh wicket. Coleman strained a thigh when batting in the Hertfordshire first innings. He batted with a runner in both innings and could not field or bowl during the Norfolk innings. C A Orr acted as substitute fielder and caught Garnier. Several short showers interrupted play on both days.
