4 THE MINOR COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIP 1907 INTRODUCTION This book contains the match scores, a statistical survey and the full averages, both by county and by player in alphabetical order, for 1907, which was the thirteenth season of the Minor Counties Championship. It follows the same format as the previous ACS publications which covered the first twelve seasons of the competition. THE LEAD UP TO THE 1907 COMPETITION The December 1906 Annual Meeting The Annual Meeting of the Association was held in the Committee-Room in the Pavilion at Lord's on Tuesday 18 December. It commenced at 10.15 am and lasted for nearly two hours. P J de Paravicini was in the chair. Those delegates present were: W W Marks (Bedfordshire), Sir C E M Y Nepean and Major C Turner (Berkshire), P J de Paravicini and B Abrahams (Buckinghamshire), Major O Papworth (Cambridgeshire), J Bray (Cornwall), W Hardy Manfield (Dorset), T A Bulmer (Durham), J H Brain and A G Thackeray (Glamorgan), H M Harford (Hertfordshire), J Hornor and T J Matthews (Lancashire 2nd XI), A E Gibson and W E Thompson (Lincolnshire), E S Phillips (Monmouthshire), E G Buxton and L Barratt (Norfolk), W C Hancock (Staffordshire), R Ll Hodgson (Suffolk), K J Key (Surrey 2nd XI), A M Miller (Wiltshire), R W Frank and F C Toone (Yorkshire 2nd XI), plus the honorary secretaries, R H Mallett (Durham) and Dr J Earl Norman (Hertfordshire). The following counties were not represented: Carmarthenshire, Devon, Northumberland and Worcestershire 2nd XI. The minutes of the special meeting held at Lord's in April 1906 were duly confirmed. The main purpose of that meeting had been to draft the regulations under which the 1907 Championship would be held. [See page 7 of 1906 Book for full details.] The Election of Officers – Harry Mallett and Earl Norman were re-elected as Joint Honorary Secretaries, a hearty vote of thanks being passed to them for their valuable services. Those two, plus Percy de Paravicini, were re-elected as the three representatives of the Minor Counties on the MCC Advisory Committee. Representatives of Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Staffordshire, Surrey 2nd XI and Wiltshire were re-elected as the Emergency Committee. The 1906 Representative Match – A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the Ealing CC in general, and to Mr C P Coode in particular, for their assistance in staging the match between the Minor Counties and the West Indians in the previous June. Regret was expressed that the fixture, which the tourists won by 215 runs, had not been a greater financial success. Lincolnshire and Worcestershire 2nd XI – At some point between the Special Meeting of April 1906 and this meeting, both Lincolnshire and Worcestershire 2nd XI were admitted to the Championship. [No mention was made of the entry of either club in the transcript of the proceedings but press reports indicate the dates at which their decisions to enter the competition were made known.
