When Hawksworth joined Aston 27 runs were still needed. The winning runs were scored amid reported scenes of considerable excitement. For Monmouthshire, Steeples took 12 wickets in the match for 104 runs, including 8 for 50 in the Devon first innings. Diver top- scored with 43, an innings containing 4 fours.
