The Lancashire 2 nd XI Captain, Ainscough, choose not to enforce the follow-on, despite being 169 runs ahead on first innings. Glamorgan needed 291 runs to win in their second innings with over a day to score them. For the winners, Heap played a major role, opening both the batting and bowling in both innings, scoring 119 runs and taking 9 wickets for 87 runs. Heap’s 81 included 11 fours and Higson’s 65 4 fours. For the losers, J H Brain’s 80 contained 1 f ive and 7 fours. In the Glamorgan first innings, Preedy was out obstructing the field, the first time this had occurred in a Championship match. He prevented Blomley taking a catch behind the wicket. The 25 maidens bowled by Heap in the match were equal second highest during the season. J H Brain kept wicket in the Lancashire 2 nd XI second innings. W.H.Brain was run out without facing a ball in the Glamorgan second innings.
