The Northumberland second innings declaration left Bedfordshire 105 minutes to get 304 runs. Bedfordshire had won when the two teams met at Dunstable in June. For the home side, there were 15 fours and 6 fours respectively in Marsh all’s two innings of 89 and 61 not out, and 14 fours and 10 fours in G Simpson’s 82 and 55. A Simpson’s 59 contained 2 sixes and 7 fours, and Gillespie’s 53 included 7 fours. In the Northumberland first innings, Gillespie and Marshall added 104 runs for th e third wicket and Skinner and G Simpson 100 for the sixth. For Bedfordshire, Wharmby’s 56 included 8 fours and Orr’s 52 also contained 8 fours. The match aggregate of 953 runs was the third highest of the season. The 185 runs conceded by Morcom in the match were the third highest during the season. When he had scored 54 in the Northumberland first innings, G Simpson reached the career milestone of one thousand runs in championship matches. Hodgkins reached the same milestone when he had scored 31 in the Bedfordshire first innings.
